Homemade Build DIY iRig (or, guitar or band input) to ipod touch, iphone, or ipad
Here are instructions on how to build your own DIY guitar cable to be used with apps such as Amplitube for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. I am sure that some of you have watching this video have all ready attempted this DIY project, yet came out with poor results (I bet you did exactly what I did wrong the first time too). With this video and the following instructions, however, you should have the proper information to be successful. TOOLS: Wire Cutters & Strippers, Soldering Iron, (Optional: Continuity Meter) SUPPLIES: 1/4" Female Jack Mono; 1/8" Female Jack Mono (You can yes 1/4", if you wish); Resistor (anything between 1k ohm 1/4 watt to 2.2k ohm 1/2 watt, I used 1.5k ohm 1/2 watt); Cable (3.5" (with 4 contact) to RCA Male cable). You can buy everything at Radio Shack except the cable which I had to order online. STEPS: (1) Cut off those RCA jacks. It's a good idea to label them (yellow, red, white). (2) Strip about 1" of the outer coating off of all of the wires then about 1/4" off of all of the inner wires. (3) Solder one of the leads on the resistor to yellow's inner wire. (4) Solder the other end of the resistor to the top ring of the jack that is connected to the arm that holds your guitar cable in. Then solder the other wire to the very bottom ring of the jack. (5) Take the white and red cables and wrap the outer wires to each other. (6) Now solder those wires you just wrapped up to the very bottom ring on the jack.
