Here hopefully is a great technique I learned a while back and want to share it with you. Works for Windows XP #Step 1: Restart your computer. #Step 2: When it begins to restart begin tapping F8 or F12 #Step 3: You will see the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" #Step 4: Select: SAFE MODE #Step 5: Click NO to proceed to System Restore #Step 6: Pick a date way before you were infected with the fake pop up ad and proceed with the system restore. #Step 7: Windows will restart and hopefully the fake pop up ad will not have happened... #Step 8: *DO NOT RUN ANY PROGRAM when Windows has finished loading up. (Doing so may activate the fake anti-virus software* Before you do anything click on START then RUN then type "MSCONFIG" then click on the tab called STARTUP and uncheck all boxes!! Click on Apply and OK ..don't restart yet. #Step 9: Remove any suspicious program you might end up finding by doing this: click on START then CONTROL PANEL then ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS (Look for anything unusual that could be the fake antivirus and uninstall the software) #Step 10: Restart your computer. You should have your computer back up and running like the way you had it. ***If all else fails I would highly recommend getting a Mac to avoid these dilemmas*** Hope this does help.
