What You Need to Know About Registry Info --------------------------------------------------------------------- Cleaning up your PC's registry is equivalent to cleaning up old or unknown contacts in your phone address book. It clears out the clutter to help speed up your computer. A registry is simply an index that tracks where things are and where they are going on your computer. To access your computer's registry, click on the Start Menu and type Run in the search field. Click on Run under Programs at the top of the search results. Type regedit in the Run dialogue box that pops up and click OK. This brings up your Registry Editor. You're probably working in something like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Click SOFTWARE to your registry database. There are registry cleaners available, but the problem with them is they'll scan your computer and just guess and check to remove files they don't think should be there. You'll definitely want to do a system backup and a registry backup before you use a cleaner. So, keep in mind the dangers of a catchall registry cleaner.
